Affordable flagship Motorola on the market early next year

Motorola will present a high-end smartphone with a friendly price tag at the beginning of 2021. According to the German Technik News the ‘Motorola Nio’ gets a Snapdragon 865 chip. This processor is already in many high-end phones this year, such as the OnePlus 8T and Sony Xperia 5 II. Motorola is said to add 8 or 12GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of storage memory.

It is not yet known how big the screen of Motorola’s affordable flagship will be. The resolution does: it is 2520 by 1080 pixels. The display also receives a refresh rate of at least 90Hz. That means animations look smoother and you scroll smoothly through social media. There is also a pill-shaped hole in the screen, which can accommodate two selfie cameras.

Motorola finally released a more expensive smartphone this year with the Motorola Edge

On the back of the Motorola Nio we find three cameras. The primary sensor has a resolution of 64 megapixels. In addition, there is a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens on the smartphone. You cannot take photos with the third camera. That is a depth sensor that ensures better portraits.

Motorola seems to be targeting the lower end of the top segment. The Nio will probably compete with phones like the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and Google Pixel 5. These are smartphones for people who want a high-end device, but are not willing to pay 1000 euros or more.

Motorola is flirting with the higher price segment again

Motorola launched two phones in the higher price segment for the first time in ages this year: the Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge Plus. The latter variant is officially not for sale in the Netherlands. However, some online stores still offer the smartphone.

Whether the Motorola Nio will come to the Netherlands is not yet known. Do you want to stay informed of all the news about this device? Sign up for our newsletter and download the free Android Planet app.
