The demand for subsidies for the construction of private charging stations for electric cars in Germany is increasing. Demand is particularly high in rural areas.

Grants of more than 22 million euros have already been approved for the construction of private charging stations for electric cars in Rhineland-Palatinate. Overall, since the program started at the end of November until the end of March, there have been commitments for around 21,000 applications, the KfW banking group announced in Frankfurt. It is assumed that a further 1,000 applications have been added to date. “We are still seeing good demand from all parts of Germany,” said a spokesman.

Owners, tenants and landlords can apply for a subsidy of 900 euros per charging point if the parking space in residential buildings is used privately. According to KfW, the grant can be used to fund the new charging station (wallbox), including installation and control. At the beginning of this week (May 24th) a total of 431,032 applications for 525,044 charging points had been received nationwide. It was said that grants of 473 million euros were promised.

In the first three months of the year, according to KfW statistics, most of the applications in Rhineland-Palatinate were received from the Trier-Saarburg, Westerwald and Mainz-Bingen districts. “The request is particularly large from regions that are structured more rural and in which there is a high proportion of self-used living space,” said the spokesman.

The prerequisite for funding is that only electricity from renewable energies is used for the charging station. dpa
