Evidence is growing that Microsoft is working on an official Android emulator for Windows 11. Android apps could also run under Windows – but there is one big catch. One of the most important apps is not supported.

Windows and Android don’t get along very well. Although Microsoft has been working on the “Your Smartphone” program recently in order to be able to operate Android phones at least rudimentarily under Windows 10, there can be no talk of full integration. But that could change in the near future.

Microsoft: Android emulator for Windows 11 in progress

In Microsoft’s official GitHub account it became known inadvertently that an Android emulator for apps was being worked on. A changelog states that “problems with the Android emulator window” have been dealt with. That doesn’t really allow any other conclusion than that Microsoft is actually working on an emulator for Android apps on Windows 11. Corresponding reports have been making the rounds for a long time. As early as November 2020 it was announced that Microsoft would like to focus more on the combination of Android apps and Windows.

How MSPoweruser would like to know, there will probably be a major limitation with the emulator. Access to the Google Play Store is therefore not planned. Apps cannot be obtained from the official source under Windows 11. The downloading and installation of Android apps must continue accordingly on the smartphone or in a browser window under Windows. It is not yet clear whether there will be any further restrictions.

Does the Android emulator come with the Sun Valley update?

Microsoft has not yet commented on the existence of an Android emulator. The program may be part of the Sun Valley update, with which the group has big plans. A publication in autumn 2021 can be assumed here. The update probably also means the jump from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
