While Windows fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Windows 11, Microsoft is pushing an update for Windows 10 in between. Windows 10 Version 21H2 should come in the fall.

At the end of June, Microsoft officially presented the next generation of Windows. With Windows 11, Microsoft has fundamentally revised the design and also pushed the integration of Android apps forward. The new version of the operating system is due to come onto the market at the end of the year – initially only for new hardware and purchase versions. Meanwhile, Windows 10 support will run until autumn 2025. Microsoft will continue to provide security and occasional function updates here as well. Now the group has announced Windows 10 Version 21H2.

Windows 10 Version 21H2: Productive and secure

Microsoft has primarily focused on the issues of productivity and security, explains Microsoft Vice President John Cable in one Blog post. One of the new features that should come with Windows 10 Version 21H2 is support for the WLAN encryption standard WPA3 H2E. In addition, the GPU can now be used for machine learning and intensive computing tasks in the Windows subsystem for Linux and under Azure IOT Edge for Linux.

The new Windows 10 version should make it easier for admins to set up company computers via Windows Hello without having to enter a password. Cable has not yet revealed more about possible new features. Just this much: The update should be delivered quickly and securely so that the 1.3 billion Windows 10 users and organizations remain protected and productive, according to the company. If you use Windows 10 in the Home or Pro version, you should get 18 months of support, in the enterprise and education sector there is 30 months of service.

New Windows 10 version will probably come in October

Windows insiders in the release preview channel should be able to test Windows 10 version 21H2 with immediate effect via the cumulative update KB5004296. The official launch will follow, but Microsoft has not yet announced an exact date. Observers expect a start in October. Because Windows 10 Version 21H2 is based on Windows 10 Version 1909, all users with a current Windows 10 version should be able to install the upcoming update without reinstalling, such as pcgameshardware.de reports.
