Merge Tactics: Kingdom Defense – -apkrig
In a game called Kingdom Defense, you become an attacker who invades foreign territory and lets himself attack you there. There is probably no point in digging into it, thematically the game makes no sense, but in terms of play? That’s different!
I didn’t expect much from Merge Tactics. Maybe thanks to that I was very pleasantly surprised after a few laps. The basic principle is easy. From the top of the screen, attackers rush at you, putting your own units in the way. Unloading them costs money. However, the biggest obstacle is space, because you always start with a maximum of six squares for your own characters. Fortunately, you can combine them to create a level stronger unit.
When you then combine two second-level units, a third-level fighter, etc. will be created. The principle is well known, but it still works perfectly. The magic of the game is not only that you build the units and let them fight, but also during the game you have to move and possibly connect them at the right time, because it will also heal. This brings a tactical element to the game that I didn’t even expect. Much of the fun also consists of testing different types of units.
In addition to knights, you can also compose your army from archers, militia, barbarians, but also druids and other magical warriors. The right combination of units can decide whether to win or lose. I also praise the diversity of individual levels, where in addition to a heavy enemy, you can meet a friendly caravan, which you can save.
The fun fighting mechanics are supported by a robust free-to-play system, which is partly against my fur, but it is definitely no exception. In addition to fighting, you are building your kingdom, above all you are building buildings that improve soldiers’ statistics, you are improving individual types of units, you are waiting for the buildings to be completed and the caravans to arrive, you are completing tasks and earning a premium currency. There is everything you would expect from a modern free-to-play game. If that doesn’t discourage you, be sure to give Merge Tactics a chance.
