Mark Zuckerberg is already tackling Apple’s future VR / AR headset
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg participated in the podcast The Information 411 and tackled Apple’s future VR / AR headset. This proves, once again, that the leader of the social network has a grudge against the company of Tim Cook.
Mark Zuckerberg isn’t a fan of Apple’s next headset
He explains that Facebook’s desire with its VR / AR headsets is to offer the lowest possible price. Why ? So that as many people as possible can buy it. As for Apple, rumors speak of prices ranging between 1,000 and 3,000 dollars. We are therefore very far from the philosophy of Facebook. But at the same time, rumors suggest that Apple’s headset will be significantly superior in experience and quality.
“I think our tendency will probably be to try to offer these products at as low a cost as possible so that we can distribute them to everyone.”, said Mark Zuckerberg, just before discussing the VR / AR headset from Apple. “Unlike some other companies in the industry who have high pricing as a business model, one of our fundamentals is that we want to serve everyone. I’m not only focusing on how to make a good VR / AR device, but also how to make it work for $ 300 instead of $ 1000 ”.
Mark Zuckerberg was also asked about the technology that Apple should use for its headphones. It consists of putting the cameras on the outside of the helmet to send the video feed to high-resolution screens inside. Other helmets have projections on transparent glasses. Mark Zuckerberg is not a fan of Apple’s method:
You probably won’t want to live in a pass-through virtual reality world anytime soon because you won’t want to give up the vividness of what your eyes can really see in terms of contrast and color brightness if everything is just one. little duller in virtual reality.
Another problem with the App Store
In addition to the Apple helmet, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned smartphones. He considers it binding to rely on the operating systems (iOS and Android) of Apple and Google, given that the two groups define their rules:
There are things that I think would create better social experiences that we just don’t have the right to develop. On computer browsers, we have this whole gaming platform. We just weren’t allowed to offer it on cell phones.
We would like to make sure that we can design the next system in such a way that it can create the kind of social experiences that we would like there to be.
