Maintain your bike yourself
To keep maintenance as cheap as possible for you, there are a few tips and tricks that will make your electric bicycle last longer.
Cleaning your bike
Rust and wear is really something you want to avoid. There is a simple solution to delay this process as long as possible: Clean your bike after use. A little warm water with some soap works wonders. Of course there are also special cleaning products for the electric bicycle, such as Cyclon Oil Instant Polish Wax. This product protects the surface of the bicycle. Furthermore, it provides a water-repellent property and prevents dirt adhesion.
Also be careful with cycling in the winter. Once sprinkled on the road, it can be harmful to your bicycle. The salt affects the paint, rims and tires.
Cleaning the chain
It may not have occurred to you yet, but you can also clean and lubricate chains yourself. First make sure your chain is clean. You can do this with a brush. Then you can lubricate your chain with chain spray, such as the Cyclon Course Spray.
Pump up tyres
Anyone can do it: Inflate tires. It is often done by everyone. Nobody wants soft tires simply because it takes a lot of energy to pedal. This is also not good for the battery of your e-bike. The softer the tires, the harder the battery has to work. However, a soft tire has other drawbacks. You are more likely to have a flat tire and your grip is also reduced. If you keep cycling with a soft tire for a long time, the wear on your profile will also get worse. To calculate the correct tire pressure, you can use a bicycle pump with pressure gauge to inflate your tires to the perfect pressure. With this you race everyone out!
Keep the battery clean
The most important part of your e-bike is your battery. Without a battery, no power is supplied to the motor. It is best to store a battery in such a dry environment. It is therefore not recommended to leave it in a damp and cold place. Room temperature is perfect!
Furthermore, it is important for the life of the battery that you recharge it after every cycle. An empty battery is bad for your battery, even if it is not used. Make sure your battery is always between 50% and 70% charged. All this to enjoy a good battery for as long as possible! Read more about charging the electric bicycle battery.
Service of your e-bike
Unfortunately, you cannot always do all maintenance yourself. Every now and then it can be nice to have your electric bicycle serviced. A bicycle expert can look at your brakes: do they still work well? In addition, they look at chain tension, whether all bolts are properly tightened and whether all electrical contacts are working properly.
