Leftovers are now available in more Albert Heijn stores

Overstayers is a new app from Albert Heijn that allows customers to buy bags with products that are almost past their best-before date. The app is still in a testing phase due to the limited number of participating stores. The supermarket chain is now expanding that number of stores to 50 units. These are the stores where you can buy Remnants.

You may already know Too Good To Go. That is an app that has already saved millions of meals from the garbage, thus combating food waste. Too Good To Go offers products from shops, cafes and restaurants and Albert Heijn is already working with this company. At the beginning of this year, the supermarket chain launched its own app to combat food waste, called Overstayers.

In this app you can purchase products bundled in bags, the so-called Overstayers, that are left over at the end of the day in the Albert Heijn branches. These products cannot return to the store shelves the next day, and can therefore be purchased for a friendly price. You can book the Overstayers in the Overstayers app.

You can now visit more Albert Heijn branches

At the beginning of this year, Albert Heijn tested this initiative in 10 stores for four weeks. As a result, hundreds of kilograms less food was wasted during the pilot. As of this week, Overstayers are available in 50 Albert Heijn stores; in the course of the year every Albert Heijn store offers them.
