learn a new language in 5 minutes a day

Apps for learning a new language come in different shapes and sizes. Duolingo is of course well-known, but we would now like to introduce you to ‘Drops’. Thanks to the playful learning method you learn in a pleasant way.

Drops: language learning app

If you want to work on your language skills, there are a lot of different applications for this in the Google Play Store. On DroidApp we previously published a comprehensive overview of the best apps for learning a new language. Do you want to brush up on your English, or do you want to work with another language; Swedish, German, Spanish, French… or Icelandic, for example?

Duolingo is perhaps the most famous app to get started with a ‘language course’. For those who want to get started in a different way and more playfully, there is Drops. This fresh looking application lets you learn a new language in a fairly straightforward way. When starting the application you will be presented with the option to choose a language you want to learn. With Drops you can choose from 41 languages.

Learning through play

You learn the language in Drops through various games. It is completely visual where you learn new words and you start with a few sentences. According to the developers, the focus is on learning words and less on grammar. These are words that really benefit you, says Drops. The translation of the words is in English by default, but hidden in your profile, you will also find a setting to change it to, for example, Dutch.

At Drops you learn slowly and by category. For example, you start with food and then it is expanded with drinking, fruit and so on. Everything you need to get by in a particular language comes back to some degree.

In a playful way, you immediately learn new words and more important sentences in another language. This means that you drag pictures to the correct word, or just form words from individual letters. There are also other games and you always hear the pronunciation of the word or sentence. I miss the grammar myself, but perhaps that will become clearer in a playful way.

Free and paid

In the free version you use the app for 5 minutes a day. Then the time stops and you see a summary of the words you have learned. You can also see the pronunciation and written text of a word again. If you want to learn more than 5 minutes a day, you have to sign up for Drops Premium. You pay 9.99 euros per month. For promotional rates you also get a discount on 1-year or lifetime. These prices vary regularly.
