Leaked The Matrix 4 title reveals piece of the story
The title of the upcoming The Matrix 4 reboot movie has been leaked, suggesting what the story might be about.
The legendary The Matrix franchise is getting a fourth part, we already knew that. But so far it was a mystery what The Matrix 4 would be about. Considering the original trilogy was quite ‘finished’, it seemed to be a prequel for the time being. The leaked title, on the other hand, suggests otherwise.
The Matrix 4 title leaked
Users on Reddit post information that was originally posted on Instagram, but was later removed (via Engagdet). The post quotes someone involved in the production of The Matrix 4 and she is said to have revealed the title. The reboot of the sci-fi franchise is reportedly called The Matrix: Resurrections.
Of course, we are not sure if the makeup artist quoted did indeed leak the title. And if so, it could just be a working title. So, of course, take the info with a grain of salt.
That said, the title does fit the franchise perfectly. After The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions both came out in 2003. A third title with the letters ‘re’ at the end certainly fits the style trend of The Matrix’s subtitles. In fact, a documentary about the films was also entitled ‘Revisited’.
The story
In addition, the title Resurrections also covers the load of the potential story of The Matrix 4. Spoiler alert for the original Matrix trilogy: Neo and Trinity both die at the end of the third film. The Matrix is rebooting while there is a peace between the people and machines. From then on, people are given the choice to step out of the matrix if they want to.
If the movie were actually a prequel, Neo and Trinity wouldn’t have to be brought back to life (resurrected in English). That title therefore suggests the obvious; it is a sequel in which Neo and Trinity live again (perhaps only in the matrix). After all, there is no guarantee that the peace between man and machine will last.
We are reportedly getting to know a lot more this year as the movie is scheduled for December 2021. You will then be able to watch the film simultaneously in the cinema or at home via HBO Max.
