KPN takes over from T-Mobile for best network

Ookla presented the new Speedtest Awards, looking at the best and fastest network per country. For the Netherlands, this means that after a long time the first place will be taken over by KPN, from T-Mobile. Where are the differences?

Speedtest Awards

The KPN network has the best figures for the third and fourth quarters of 2020, according to the study by Ookla. Ookla is the name behind the well-known Speedtest app. The figures are based on a total of 502,885 tests conducted over the two quarters, by different users, on different devices. What seems; KPN’s network is making a profit. The position of honor has consistently been taken by T-Mobile in the past three editions.

Various components have been looked at. Among other things, the coverage of the network and the 4G network have been selected. It measures where and how strong the reach is, and KPN stands out far above the rest of the providers. Vodafone is at the bottom of the league, T-Mobile is in second place. Because Tele2 has now largely been merged with T-Mobile, it has not been included in the coverage investigation. The originally Swedish provider is included in the speed test, where the internet speed is measured.

The many hundreds of thousands of tests show that the average download speed at KPN is the highest; 92.51 Mbps. With T-Mobile this is 86.20 Mbps, followed by Tele2 (77.72 Mbps) and Vodafone (76.48 Mbps). The differences in upload speed are slightly less distant; KPN is first with an average upload speed of 19.80 Mbps. T-Mobile second (18.88 Mbps), Tele2 third (16.57 Mbps) and Vodafone again last (16.06 Mbps). Ookla has placed two documents in which the test results can be viewed more closely.
