Iconic art with a rich history is actually priceless. These kinds of works of art can often be found in museums and are not officially for sale. Think of The Night Watch, but of course the Mona Lisa is also such an example. The painting hangs in the Louvre in the French capital Paris. And that’s where it hangs, no matter what offer would be made for the artwork.

But according to an online petition, Jeff Bezos should make an effort to buy the Mona Lisa. The richest man in the world gets this challenge through an online petition on change.org. A funny joke perhaps, but the petition has gone viral due to an article in The New York Times. The manifesto has now been signed more than 10,000 times.

All the petition says is that Jeff Bezos buys the Mona Lisa and eats it. The painting has a value of many tens of billions of euros. Bezos is said to be one of the few people in the world who can cough up such an amount for the artwork.

The chances of this petition becoming a reality are very slim. And let’s hope it doesn’t happen. The Mona Lisa hangs fine in the Louvre. A wealthy American who would buy the artwork to eat it sounds very bizarre.
