Jakub has created a page that verifies that you have won the vaccination lottery. It’s better than the state / Conversation

The vaccination lottery is to be another tool of the government to persuade people to be vaccinated against COVID-19. We do not know if he will be successful. The lottery met with a number of supporters, but also opponents. She did not avoid controversy either, you will certainly remember Mrs. Zuzana, who could have won 400 thousand euros, but due to a delayed internet signal, she could not read the password in time to ensure her win.

More than 10,000 vaccinated people have already won the vaccination lottery. Every vaccinee can check if they belong directly to them on the website of the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic. Winnings can be verified by several filters, such as name, municipality, code or winning amount. After the status of Igor Matovič, which he published on the social network Facebook, the site probably experienced a great onslaught, which it could not handle and fell. It works without problems at the moment.

The problem is that finding winners is impractical and time-consuming. It is always necessary to enter the competition 9-digit code, the page does not remember it. Those who were vaccinated with the single-dose vaccine received one code, and those vaccinated with the two-dose vaccine have two codes.

Programmer Jakub Bajzath has created a simple page that will greatly simplify the verification of the win. You only need to enter the competition code once on one device, it is also possible to enter more than one code at a time. The browser remembers the codes and it is possible to verify more than one code at a time. This is ideal when the whole family is competing. The website www.vyhralsom.sk thus shows that it is also easier and more convenient.

Since we know Jakub very well and worked with us in the past, we contacted him and gave us an interesting interview.

Hi Jakub, tell us something about yourself

I am a 30-year-old programmer from Žilina, for whom work is his hobby. I went through many professions, not just programming. After years, I was “drawn” to programming in another industry by Martin Krcho, who coincidentally is the former co-owner of MojAndroid.sk. And even more coincidentally, I also worked for MojAndroid.sk myself. I must say that I have a large amount of experience, which I also used in this project, thanks to my work in the MojAndroid.sk portal. In addition to programming, I like music and I like to run, I play tennis, but I watch practically any sport. I read a book here and there (but only from the reader 😁) and I practically don’t have time for anything else.

Why did you decide to create the vyhralsom.sk website?

My own need led me to create a website. I wanted to verify several codes in the vaccine lottery, but I found it annoying to enter all the codes into the filter and especially to enter them there every time I want to verify the win. So I started looking for whether the Ministry offers a source from which I could obtain this data and then compare it with the codes entered by the user. And since they had such a source, at the same moment I bought the domain vyhralsom.sk and started working on the web.

How long did it take you to create a website?

In total, it took about an hour to create a site with the purchase of a domain and connection. Then I made a lot of minor adjustments, but it was already running a sharp production version on the domain vyhralsom.sk. The web as such is not really complicated at all. Due to the fact that it is not connected to databases or even storing data, its creation was really fast. At first I didn’t look at graphics, UX / UI or SEO. I made the site quickly so I could verify the codes and then I tested a lot. I posted the page in a few groups and people caught on. I dare say that because it is fast and carefree. People today simply don’t have the time and need to do things in a few clicks if possible. And I made it possible for them. After a few hours, I started working on the mobile version and gradually I redesigned the whole design to a nicer and clearer one, so that even the UX experience was higher.

How does it all work?

As I mentioned, all functionality is based on two things. The first is the verification of codes against the database of the Ministry of Finance, which is publicly available. If the code is in this database, the database mediates the code itself, the name of the winner, the municipality / city and the amount of the prize. This data will then be displayed in a verification table on the vyhralsom.sk website. Thanks to that, you don’t have to look for who, for example, the code belongs to in the family. You can find out on the web quite easily and quickly.

Since we are a portal about Android, do you also develop applications for Android?

I developed hybrid applications, ie for iOS and Android. I always try to bring applications that are missing on the market and can be beneficial. It is often because I miss such an apka and when I miss it, there is a chance that I miss others. My first was the FIŠTA application, which was actually such a “mobile Finstat”. However, this project fell over time because the data that was needed from Finstat was constantly changing, so the development was too demanding for the pro-bono project. In short, there was no time for that. The latest application, which is only for Android, is Scrabble Dictionary. Since my wife and I play Scrabble and always argue about whether a word exists or not, I created this application that selects the words you are looking for from several dictionaries and then offers their meaning. We haven’t argued about Scrabble since 🙂 A similar alternative for iOS already existed, so I only published the application on Google Play and Huawei AppGallery. I’m planning another application, it’s about the weather, but it’s still early to talk about it.

Do you work on other projects as well?

Unfortunately, there is not much time left for other projects. My main job is programming, so it takes up all my time (sometimes all my free time). However, I often get inquiries about various interesting projects. If I like it, I have no problem sacrificing his free time and doing it without the right to a salary. However, I must be really interested and I must see the benefits in it, preferably not only for me. The last application I plan to create should come from this concept.
