It turns a 2004 iPod with Spotify and Wi-Fi

Guy Dupont decided to completely transform the fourth generation iPod, which dates from 2004, to offer support for Spotify and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi was not at all relevant at that time on iPods. . The first model to have it was the iPod touch three years later.

In his video, Guy Dupont explains his work to transform the 2004 iPod in order to adapt it to play music from Spotify. He changed everything at the component level. In fact, the only original item is the hull of the player. He put inside a Raspberry Pi Zero, a new screen, a Micro-USB port, as well as a 1000 mAh battery.

Then comes all the work on the software part. He created a graphical interface that most closely resembles the original one. The 2004 iPod had to be able to communicate with Spotify and therefore set up access. Guy Dupont also had to manage all the wireless part. Unfortunately, some things do not work. This is the case with the jack for example. Sound can only be played over Bluetooth.

Upon arrival, the project cost less than $ 100. Guy Dupont specifies that he has no intention of selling modified iPods. This is a personal project, nothing more. He named it sPot. It shares the list of components to this address and make the source code available on GitHub.
