It creates wired AirPods with a USB-C connector
Swiss engineer Ken Pillonel is back, this time with a special project: wired AirPods. But there is still a particularity, namely a USB-C connector and not a 3.5 mm jack. The choice to publish this project on April 1 is not trivial.
The engineer indicates that iFixit’s repair rating for AirPods is 0 out of 10, regardless of models (standard or Pro) or earphone generations. We are therefore in a situation where the AirPods are disposable earphones since replacing the battery requires considerable work, given the small size. It’s nearly impossible without breaking something along the way. Moreover, Apple does not take the risk and provides a new pair to users if there is a problem.
Ken Pillonel therefore decided to create a pair of AirPods which have the particularity of having a wire with a USB-C connector, in order to plug into a device to continue to take advantage of the headphones, even if the battery is dead.
Although this is a humorous project, it is worth noting that the Swiss has stood out for several projects over the months. In particular, there was an iPhone X with a working USB-C port, as well as an AirPods case again with a working USB-C port. He also managed to put a Lightning port on a Samsung smartphone.
