Is Twitter threatened with being kicked out of the App Store?

Hardly a day goes by without news from Twitter. Elon Musk has now taken on what was once the company’s biggest advertiser: Apple. According to Musk, the iPhone company even threatened to ban Twitter from the App Store.

Elon Musk has anything but brought Twitter into safe waters after his takeover. After verification chaos, wave of layoffs and general amnesty, the boss has now chosen a new enemy.

Because on Monday Musk made Apple. Until recently, the iPhone group was one of the short message service’s most important advertisers. But like many other companies, Apple has largely halted its advertising spending in the wake of the Twitter chaos.

What does Elon Musk suddenly have against Apple?

Musk wrote in a tweet on Monday that Apple had “largely stopped” advertising on the platform. He followed this message with a question: “Do you hate freedom of speech in America?”

But that’s not all. Almost an hour later, Musk announced that Apple had “also threatened to ban Twitter from its App Store.” However, there was no justification from the iPhone group.

That’s how valuable Apple is as an advertiser

Elon Musk’s anger at Apple’s lack of advertising money is understandable when you look at the numbers. Because the iPhone group has not only spent peanuts on Twitter.

In fact, Apple was the social network’s largest advertiser in the first quarter. According to a document from which the Washington Post quoted.

According to this, Apple spent 48 million US dollars on advertising for the short message service in the first quarter alone. That was more than four percent of Twitter’s revenue this quarter.

Could Apple Really Kick Twitter From the App Store?

Apple could well ban the app from the App Store. Because as soon as the platform does not adhere to the security guidelines or problematic content is published there, Apple can intervene.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Apple has banned a popular app from its App Store because the operators don’t play by the rules.

The chaos on Twitter in China over the weekend showed how quickly the short message service can drown in spam. Heavily reduced or no longer existing moderation teams do the rest.

Should Apple actually take this step, users would no longer be able to download the app to their iPhones. Existing users would no longer be able to access updates.

Elon Musk reacts to the danger with criticism of Apple’s market power. He shared a link to a parody video made by game maker Epic after its App Store sacking.
