‘Is OnePlus’ Nord 2 a copy of the Realme X9 Pro? That’s the way it is’
OnePlus wants to repeat the success of its original Nord in 2021 with the Nord 2. The phone is expected to be released next month and it will be the first OnePlus phone with a MediaTek chipset. This may have to do with a close collaboration with Realme. The Nord 2 would be a copy of Realme’s X9 Pro.
OnePlus Nord 2 or Realme X9 Pro
OnePlus has undergone a significant change of course in recent months. With the Nord series, the company’s focus shifted from the high-end segment to the production of midrange telephones. The fact that OnePlus has entered the midrange segment may have to do with the close ties that the company has with sister manufacturers OPPO and Realme. Some of the OnePlus phones are OPPO phones with a different housing. OnePlus’ Nord N100 is under the skin, for example, an OPPO A53 with subtle changes to the camera modules.
OnePlus’ Nord 2 uses the same recipe, a rumor reported on the Chinese Weibo. This time it is not a device from OPPO, but OnePlus uses the Realme X9 Pro as the basis for the Nord 2. According to the rumor, there are two models of the X9 in development – a model with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, which was previously sent to TENNAA via TENNAA. came out, and an X9 Pro model with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset.
Flat screen, unknown format
Arsenal, the rumor maker on Weibo, further reports that the ‘Realme X9 Pro’ will be sold as the Nord 2 with a flat screen as opposed to the rounded 2D screen on the regular X9 Pro. The panel would further have a 90 Hz refresh rate. A screen size on the Nord 2 is not mentioned. It previously leaked that the screen of the Nord would have a 6.43-inch diagonal, but the X9 Pro from Realme has a 6.55-inch diagonal.
Other specs are largely similar, such as the 50MP main rear camera, the 32MP selfie camera, as well as the 4,500mAh battery and the ability to charge it with 65W. There is, however, a difference to note with the wide-angle camera. On the Realme X9 Pro, it has a 16 MP resolution, while the Nord 2 is expected to include an 8 MP wide-angle camera.
Previously, OnePlus replaced sensors of the OPPO A53, in order to be able to use the phone in its own range. It is therefore certainly possible that OPPO and Realme have developed the devices together, but make some differences in the specification list in order to appeal to their own target group and to achieve the desired price point.
Launch OnePlus Nord 2
A final detail disclosed in Arsenal’s Weibo post is that OnePlus plans to launch the Nord 2 in July. That is in line with expectations, given that OnePlus also presented the original Nord to the general public in July in 2020. It is not yet known at what price the OnePlus Nord 2 will be available in July. The price is probably around 400 euros.
