iPhone home button broken: follow these steps

It is possible that in 2021 you are using an iPhone SE 2020 or an older (refurbished) device with a home button. But what do you do if the home button is broken? You can of course always have the device repaired, but you can also continue to use your iPhone without a home button. To do this, follow the following steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
  2. Tap on ‘Accessibility’;
  3. Tap on ‘Touch’ and choose ‘Assistive Touch’;
  4. Turn on the switch behind ‘Assistive Touch’.

A dark gray square will now appear on your screen. If you press this you will get several options. By tapping on ‘Home’ you go to your home screen. If you have an older iOS version, you may be able to find Assistive Touch by going to Settings> General> Accessibility> Assistive Touch to activate the function.

You can continue to use the most important functions of your iPhone from this quick menu. The shortcut always remains on your screen, and you can easily slide it with your finger if you need to access an app that is just below it. It’s not ideal, but you can at least continue to use your iPhone this way if the home button is broken.
