iPhone 15: Apple slows down standard models
Next year, the iPhone 15 will be a major shift for Apple and consumers. Instead of a Lightning connector, there will be a USB-C port for the first time in all Apple cell phone models. But now it comes out: USB-C is not the same as USB-C, there will be differences and the cheap models will be slowed down again.
A trustworthy report was already doing the rounds in May. Accordingly, the iPhone 15 will be the first Apple cell phone with USB-C instead of Lightning. The reason? The EU is forcing Apple to rethink, because from 2024 the new connection will be mandatory anyway. The final “go” for the new regulation followed in October and Apple has now officially accepted the decision and will not take any action against it.
iPhone 15: USB-C is not equally fast in all models
From what the rumor mill knows, all iPhone 15 models will get USB-C. But now it turns out that some variants are the same as the same and get a better, because faster variant of the connection. This is currently reported by the well-informed Apple insider Ming Chi Kuo. According to him, only the two iPhone 15 Pro models will actually benefit from faster transfer speeds. On the other hand, the regular iPhone 15 and the larger iPhone 15 Plus also have to continue with USB 2.0 speed (480 MBit/s) content Already the maximum with Lightning.
None of the current iPhone 14 models have USB-C:
On the other hand, it’s faster iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to. According to Kuo, the transmission speeds of the two smartphones will “improve significantly”. At least USB 3.2 speed is there, if not at all thunderbolt 3. As a result, the data then flit through the cable with at least 20 GBit/s or even 40 GBit/s. A huge difference compared to the 480 Mbps of the standard models. This is particularly noticeable with larger file types such as videos.
Speaking of future iPhones. Apple has yet to implement these creative ideas:
repeat offender Apple
In the end, this isn’t all that surprising. Even with the iPads, Apple has recently made big differences. The new iPad 2022 does have a USB-C connection, but it also accelerates to a maximum of USB 2.0 speed (480 Mbit/s) and is therefore no faster than Lightning. On the other hand, the iPad Air (10 GBit/s) and the iPad Pro (40 GBit/s) are better. In the next year achieve this class differences with the connections also the iPhone.
