‘iPhone 13 takes great photos, but isn’t the best’
A large camera test shows that the iPhone 13 series shoots excellent photos and videos. Still, all models have to tolerate some other smartphones.

iPhone 13 scores well in camera test
The website DxOMark looks at the cameras of just about every high-end smartphone. Their tests show that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini score about as well as the iPhone 12 Pro Max, last year’s top model. That is not very surprising: Apple put the primary sensor of the latter device in the entry-level models of 2021.
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini get 130 points in the DxOMark camera test. This puts them just outside the top 10 of the website. The colors are praised, as are the fast autofocus and the details in photos you shoot in good light. In terms of video, the iPhone 13 is even one of the best smartphones on the market. The device loses points due to the lack of a telephoto camera, so you can only zoom in digitally. The dynamic range is also limited if there is a lot of contrast in your photo.
iPhone 13 Pro does even better
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max finish in joint fourth place in DxOMark’s camera test. They are only beaten by the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and two smartphones from Huawei.
The website writes that Apple has taken everything out of the new sensors. The contrast and amount of detail in the photos are better than last year. The Pros do have a telephoto camera, so they score higher in this area than the regular iPhone 13. Still, other smartphones sometimes offer lenses that allow you to zoom in even further. In terms of video, the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) has no equal. It is the best phone DxOMark has ever tested in this regard.
