iPhone 12: 4G is faster than 5G at Verizon
Tests show that the iPhone 12 has better speeds in 4G rather than 5G at the operator Verizon. This situation also exists in France in reality, as well as in other countries. In France, the iPhone 12 has supported 5G for 10 days.
PCMag compared 4G and 5G speeds at Verizon with an iPhone 12 Pro. The test took place at eight different locations in New York City. In seven cases, 4G was faster than 5G. This is explained by the choice of Verizon to resume 4G frequencies to make 5G. Some operators do the same in France. This is particularly the case of Free Mobile which takes maximum advantage of 700 MHz for 5G. This frequency was already used for 4G.
In the case of Verizon, the operator recognizes that 5G on an iPhone 12 (or another phone) is not very attractive for the moment. “For most customers, the performance of our national 5G network will be similar to that of the 4G network”, did he declare. It expects to offer better speeds from 2021 by modifying the use of its antennas.
PCMag’s advice for customers with an iPhone 12 is to turn off 5G. This is done from Settings> Cellular data> Options.
