iOS 15 improves Face ID security for identity theft

Apple announces that Face ID is improving with iOS 15, especially when it comes to security. The manufacturer indicates that this applies to all iPhones, starting with iPhone X.

Better for Face ID with iOS 15

The improvement in Face ID with iOS 15 follows a fixed security vulnerability. Apple Explain that a 3D model created to look like the user registered on the iPhone might be able to authenticate via Face ID. “This issue was addressed by improving the Face ID impersonation models.”, says Apple. The flaw is referenced CVE-2021-30863 and was exposed by Wish Wu working for the Ant-financial Light-Year Security Lab. By the way, iOS 15 closes 22 security holes.

It is amazing to see that Apple has only just blocked this system. Indeed, we hear about it since the iPhone X and the introduction of Face ID. People had managed to create sophisticated masks to pretend to be the owner of the iPhone and thus unlock the device. There have also been cases where twins were able to unlock their sibling’s phone.

iOS 15 is available for download now, for both iPhone and iPad. All the new features of this update can be found on this dedicated article.
