Intel shows Nuc 11 with Tiger Lake and Geforce graphics

No time right now?

The manufacturer is launching 44 new models in three categories. One is even suitable for playing. A new module is intended to motivate other OEMs to build mini-computers as well.

Intel is upgrading the Nuc series with three series: they are called Performance, Enthusiast and Pro. The standard model is called Nuc 11 Performance, while the group gives the high-performance division the addition of Enthusiast. The Pro range is aimed at the business environment. At the same time, Intel is showing the new heart of the computer that other manufacturers are supposed to use to develop their own compact computers: All of them contain the recently introduced processors with the code name Tiger Lake.

Standard is now called performance

Three computers fall under the “Performance” group. In eight configurations customers can choose between three processors (i3-114G4, i5-1135G7 and i7-1165G7) and three housings (38, 51 or 56 millimeters high). You can book an additional 2.5-inch SSD with a height of 51 millimeters. The largest case is reserved for the two more powerful processor configurations. It contains an inductive charging plate in the lid, which can wirelessly supply 15 watts of power to other devices. Intel also equips these models with the Iris Xe graphics unit, while the i3 variants have UHD graphics modules. All devices now have WLAN according to the Wi-Fi 6 standard. Although the processors are Thunderbolt 4 capable, Intel has installed two interfaces from the predecessor. In addition, two front USB ports with type A and type C sockets and three rear USB ports (two type A and one type C) ensure connectivity. The basic equipment includes NVMe SSDs with 500 gigabytes of space, Ethernet, HDMI 2.0a and modern audio connections (7.1 digital, stereo mic). All Nucs allow up to 64 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM.

Pro for business customers

The Pro series differs from the standard models in that at least one of the Thunderbolt ports supports version 4. In addition, customers can also choose vPro models for the processors. The choices are i7-1185G7, i7-1165G7, i5-1145G7, i5-1135G7 and i3-1115G4. In combination with the two case sizes and other offers, Intel has a total of 20 variations. Intel offers the boards individually so that you can build them yourself, or as a complete computer.

Enthusiast with dedicated graphics

The Top model runs under the name Enthusiast. In the new case, an i7-1165G7 sets the pace. In addition to the Iris-Xe unit, a dedicated Geforce RTX 2060 is responsible for the graphics. It has six gigabytes of memory. In contrast to the other series, there is an Optane module with 32 gigabytes under the hood. There are also two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, a Toslink socket and array wide-field microphones with four capsules. A total of eight USB 3.1 ports. Gen2 sit in the case. Otherwise the equipment is the same as in the other rows.

Everything even without a housing

Intel also offers most configurations without a case. The respective processors and the main memory are firmly soldered to the mini mainboard. The so-called compute elements come on sale in different sizes and configurations Intel marketed under the name Elk Bay. The processor selection ranges from the Celeron with four gigabytes of RAM to the gaming model with i7-1185G7 and 16 gigabytes of RAM.
