With Notes, Instagram gives short text messages a permanent place. There are also worldwide tests for other functions – also for a Bereal copy.
The social network Instagram wants to bring a new feature for all users this year. In addition, several tests for various innovations have been announced.
With the Notes function, people should be able to share pure text content via the messenger integrated in the app. They can write a maximum of 60 characters and share this short message with their “close friends” list, for example. The text will be displayed at the top of the chats for 24 hours.
Anyone who sees such a text can react to it with text: The message then ends up in private direct messages and is not publicly visible. According to Instagram, the feature has already been tested; it has been shown that users use Notes to exchange ideas and start chats.
Noisy Techcrunch Instagram takes a look at Twitter. the New York Times (Paywall) wants to know that there are considerations to set up the function as a separate app and thus compete directly with the microblogging service.
Notes is due out mid-December 2022 — Mark Zuckerberg has the feature on his own Instagram account announced. However, there is no mention of this on the German-speaking Instagram blog.
With the additional features that have been announced, Instagram is also in the mood for copying: With Candid, the hyped Bereal app is being imitated. About the story function at least a very similar function is to be tested on Instagram.
When users use Candid, they are prompted to take a picture and share it. They can then share the request in their story and ask their followers to participate. Only those who also take pictures can then see the photos of the others. Once you are there, you will be asked to take a picture every day.
Another feature that is currently being tested is Pass it on, which is based on Tiktok. This is intended to specifically encourage contacts on the platform to participate in a trend – this is popular with Tiktok.
But the Instagram test series goes even further: the group functions are also tested with regard to new features. New “group profiles” are intended to simplify the sharing of content among several people. There is also an expansion of the “collection” function: it should also be usable for groups so that several users can collect content there.
According to Techcrunch, Instagram, which belongs to the Meta corporation, is testing the group profiles in Canada, Chile and Taiwan. All other functions are tested worldwide.
“Notes” is out of the test phase and will soon be available for both iOS and Android users.
