Instagram moves to paid subscriptions
Exclusive content on Instagram can be live videos or stories only available to paying members. Other content may also be offered. Subscribers will also receive purple badges that will allow them to distinguish themselves in comments and private messages.
Initially, Instagram is doing the test with 10 US creators, with each being able to set their price between $0.99 and $99.99 per month. The social network agrees not to take a commission until at least 2023, 100% of the money goes into the pockets of the creators. However, the platform does not specify what the amount of the commission will be when it is in place.
“Instagram following trial launched today in US. This will help creators earn more by providing perks to their most engaged followers, like access to live videos and exclusive stories.”, indicated Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. “I’m excited to continue creating tools for creators to make a living doing creative work and to put those tools in the hands of more creators soon”, he added.
Instagram does not yet specify when the test will open to other countries and when it will be available for everyone.
