Instagram has to keep coming up with new functions to attract users, but also to keep them. Sometimes all the different functions scare users, but the platform has nevertheless introduced something new.

For an app it is important that as many people as possible use it. Previously, you could only go live with two people with Instagram. Not anymore, now you can stream live to all your followers with Live Rooms with multiple people at the same time. With this new feature you can video chat with four people during a live broadcast. A blog post from Instagram today says it hopes the feature will encourage people to start a ‘talk show or podcast’, host a ‘jam session’ or collaborate with other creators. So they are trying to introduce the popularity of podcasts to the platform. And yes, of course it also has similarities with the Clubhouse app. This emerging audio app where more than ten people can speak at the same time is a lot like it. Instagram is trying to benefit from this success.

Larger audience

The aim of having more people go live is to attract a larger audience. Not only attractive for Instagram, but also for the users. The followers of all participants will see the live room. Anyone who is blocked by the active participants cannot participate.

The audience watching has to cross a barrier, because you are always on camera. Even if you just watch. And many Instagrammers are so panicked about always looking great. That is not possible if you would like to take a look in a Live Room in your pajamas on the couch. Instagram, however, bets that people fall back on their own followers that they ‘know’ anyway.
