Ikea is throwing hundreds of products off the shelves – including online

If you shop at Ikea or place an online order, you will notice that it is often no longer as easy to get to the products of the furniture chain as it was before. Ikea also sees the problem. To solve it, one now wants to reduce the selection without further ado.

Ikea is canceling hundreds of products

The furniture chain Ikea will take several hundred products out of sale. Ironically – at least at first glance – the aim is to ensure the availability of the Ikea range. The hard line is planned for the year 2022. Then around 600 items will probably disappear from the shelves and the online shop (source: Wirtschaftswoche).

The reason for this step is the persistently very high demand at Ikea, combined with international delivery difficulties – also in the wake of the pandemic. Especially for deliveries that are produced in Asia and then shipped, it can be scarce and expensive for Ikea at the moment. The plan is to “reduce the entire range of products in Europe by around five percent and in North America by around four percent, ”said a spokeswoman for the furniture chain. The business newspaper expects around 12,000 articles that Ikea should normally offer in total. Based on this, around 600 different products will not be sold in the coming year.

The group wants to forego parts of the range in order to be able to deliver overall. They hope to be able to avoid empty shelves in furniture stores and long delivery times and achieve “higher product availability”, they say. Of course, this then only applies to the articles that do not fall victim to the deletion. above the exact number of products and which it will be, Ikea did not say.

Are you one of the lucky ones who already has lots of Ikea furniture at home? Then you see in the Videohow you can still make money with your “old” parts – the buying interest should be great.

Ikea customers can breathe a sigh of relief

Nevertheless, customers can reasonably well be reassured. It cannot be ruled out that buyers will have to forego some products. But it is unlikely that Ikea will take the “box office hits” out of its range. Instead, products that are seldom bought will be deleted, creating more space in the containers for items that are in demand.

In addition, the products will initially be withdrawn from the range for a limited period of time. What is not missed is unlikely to make a comeback afterwards, but it is a final end at the moment for none of the affected articles.
