Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A8s. With its innovative Infinity-O display, the mid-range smartphone is the blueprint for the Galaxy S10. With that, the South Koreans are ahead of Huawei’s competition.
In early September Samsung, mobile boss DJ Koh burst a small bomb: In future Samsung will introduce new features not in the upper class of the prestigious Galaxy S or Note series, but in the middle class. The Galaxy A series should be innovation carriers, so the new direction. We’re seeing the first fruits of this new strategy on the Galaxy A8s.
Galaxy A8s with Infinity O-Display: Samsung Comes Huawei Before
The now-featured mid-range smartphone is the first Samsung mobile to feature a so-called “Infinity-O” display with a hole in the screen. In this small recess is the front camera. A classic “Notch” does not have the Galaxy A8s with the model number SM-G8870 so, the display can be used to 100 percent because of the hole but just as little. So, Samsung takes a middle ground between screen scores on the one hand and intact display on the other.
The new Nova 4 from Huawei is rumored to have a display hole, but will not be officially released until December 17th. Samsung is ahead of its Chinese counterpart, heralding a new design era for smartphones.
Galaxy A8s: An Outlook on the Galaxy S10?
Just as interesting as the competitive situation is likely to be the outlook on its own product portfolio, which the Galaxy A8s permits. Industry observers believe that the Galaxy S10 will also receive an Infinity-O-Display. The Galaxy A8s can therefore be regarded as a blueprint for the industry’s next leading smartphone flagship.
Apart from the Infinity-O display, the Galaxy A8s offers standard fare for the upscale smartphone middle class. Power is provided by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710, which has eight cores and clocks at a maximum of 2.2 GHz. The chip is supported by – depending on the model – 6 or 8 GB RAM. Internally there are 128 GB available. With a 6.4-inch display, the Galaxy A8s is in the category of Phablets. All other specifications:
