Despite the US sanctions, Huawei will soon release a new top smartphone. With the Huawei P50 Pro, however, there will be a change in the ranking, which could include the end of the popular Lite model.

Huawei

One of the most popular trends in the mobile communications world is the differentiation of the model series. Whereas there used to be only a top smartphone, the flagship model is now flanked by Plus, Pro or Lite variants. Huawei has also taken this step in the past. At the Huawei P50 the Chinese manufacturer should one Make U-turn.

Huawei P50: no Lite variant planned

According to an insider on Twitter, the flagship smartphone will continue to be in three versions offered, but one Lite variant is apparently not included be. Instead, the regular version should take the place of the previous Lite, the Pro should in turn become the new standard and the Huawei P50 Pro + should follow in the footsteps of the old Pro.

With this, Huawei is shaking up its previous version policy for smartphones. In the past, the company always offered Lite versions, some of which have broken sales records. Potential buyers now apparently have to do without that. And: With the double suffix “Pro +”, the naming also seems a little exaggerated, at least for the top model.

Can Huawei still keep up?

The technical equipment of Huawei’s upcoming smartphone flagship is likely to be more important than the name and the versions anyway – especially since the US sanctions continue to apply and the manufacturer is cut off from purchasing important hardware components. Under these difficult conditions, it is at least doubtful that the Chinese will be able to bring an equal competitor to the market for the Galaxy S21 or the iPhone 12, which is highly praised by the Huawei founder himself.
