The quality of smartphone photos is nowadays one of the main decisive parameters when buying new models. Motorola is certainly aware of that. That’s why the Motorola moto g9 plus offers up to 4 sensors on the back. Again, we have one lens that helps blur the background and is completely useless.
I usually criticize the use of a macro lens, even in this case I would have survived without it. However, it offers an advantage over similarly expensive competitors in the form of autofocus. In good lighting conditions, you can create quite decent shots. Just watch out for very low resolution.

Motorola moto g9 plus and photo application
The camera application is old. It contains all the necessary settings and if you get used to it, you will just praise it. Sometimes they are unpleasantly surprised by the slower reaction, but this is not the rule at all. There are several modes, including portrait, night mode and a special mode called Highlight Color. Within it, just tap on any object during shooting and a specific color will be highlighted in the photo, while the others will be black and white.
It is also possible to take photos in a maximum resolution of 64 MP. The default is 16 MP resolution, which offers a significantly better dynamic range. It’s a pity that there is no optical image stabilization.
Photo quality does not deviate from the standard
I like the photos I took with the main camera. During the day they are very nice, at night it is worse, but the night mode can significantly help. Sometimes too much and the photos look unnatural. The device tends to highlight warmer colors during night mode. The smartphone has the most problems just after sunset and before sunrise. At these times, the photos are a bit out of focus.
An ultra-wide-angle sensor is literally a necessity these days. In the Motorola moto g9 plus, it performs its function well. During the day in good light you will get quite nice photos. With the fading light, it’s worse. Overall, the quality of the ultra-wide sensor is comparable to other models in a similar price range. That means you can’t expect miracles. A pleasant surprise for me was the night mode available for this sensor as well. Without it, it is absolutely not worth taking pictures at night.
Portrait photos with background blur are quite nice. You can set the blur level during the shooting itself. Personally, I would not go to extremes and I would leave the slider somewhere in the middle. With this setting, the background is pleasantly out of focus, while the subject in the center remains sharp.
The selfie camera is again average and does not deviate in any way from the quality standard of the smartphone’s price category. Again, in nice weather, the photos are quite good, practically useless at night. So no surprise. Autofocus does not have it, and you need to be careful about how far you hold the device from your face to focus properly.
