Do you want to share a photo in WhatsApp, without the recipient owning it forever? It’s possible thanks to a new ‘Single view’ function. In this tip you can read how to send a disappearing photo in WhatsApp.

Send disappearing photo in WhatsApp

The ‘Single View’ feature has been available in WhatsApp beta for about a month, but is now available to everyone. With the function you send a photo or video that automatically disappears when it is opened by the recipient.

To get started with the new WhatsApp feature, you need the latest version of the messaging service: 2.21.150. To do this, open the App Store app, search for WhatsApp and tap – if you haven’t updated yet – on Update. Then do the following to send a disappearing photo in WhatsApp:

  1. Open a conversation in WhatsApp and tap the plus button at the bottom left;
  2. Select ‘Photo & Video Library’ and choose a photo or video;
  3. Tap the ‘1’ button at the bottom right, left of the send button;
  4. Tap the send button.

The recipient will now see the message ‘Photo’ or ‘Video’, with the ‘Single view’ icon next to it. If the person taps it, he or she can view the photo or video once. Once viewed, the chat will show ‘Opened’ and the image will be gone in WhatsApp for good.

What if you take a screenshot?

The feature is ideal for sharing privacy-sensitive information, such as a Wi-Fi password. Think twice before sending an embarrassing or spicy photo, as the recipient may take a screenshot. The sender will not be notified of this and the image will still be saved in this way.
