How to scan a QR code: explained in 3 steps

We have seen them pass by in daily life for years; QR codes. But what can you do with it and how do you scan a QR code?

The QR code

In the 1990s, the QR code was invented by a Japanese company. This company came up with this other form of barcode for identifying auto parts in the manufacturing process. We now see QR codes in many places; in magazines, at stations, on packaging and in many other places.

The abbreviation QR stands for Quick Response. And that’s exactly what the QR code stands for. You can scan these codes with your smartphone to quickly get additional information. Think, for example, of getting background information on a certain subject.

Points of attention

Not every QR code can be simply scanned with the Google Lens app. Think, for example, of a QR code for a payment, such as the one with the ING app. You do not scan it with this app, but with the app of your bank itself. Also a QR code of the CoronaCheck app cannot be scanned with the Google Lens app, because there is a security in between. The CoronaCheck QR code can only be scanned with the CoronaCheck app. It is recommended that you only scan QR codes that you trust. Some can be misleading.
