How do I take pictures with the Nokia X20 smartphone?
Welcome to our old well-known series, in which we introduce individual smartphones and talk about the quality of their cameras. We are more satisfied with some of them, a little less with others. The recently tested new Nokia X20 is a mid-range mobile phone. It will please less demanding users, who will not be prevented from making a few compromises.
The cameras of this model are quite good, but they can lag behind the competition. You can read more details about the set of cameras in the review of this smartphone itself, or in the continuation of the article. So let’s describe the sensors of this tested smartphone from lower categories.

Cameras: Slightly below-average rear cameras and a great “selfie” sensor
Right at the beginning, it is possible to attract four sensors in a circular module on the back. But in reality, you will only use two cameras – the primary and the ultra-wide one. The main sensor has a resolution of 64 MP, but the captured images have a resolution of 16 MP. This is because four pixels are combined into one to create a better overall photo and to capture more light. The brightness of this sensor is f / 1.79.
The ultra wide angle camera has a resolution of 5 MP. Finally, there is a pair of 2 MP cameras on the Nokia X20 smartphone, the first of which is used to take portrait photos and the second then takes macro photos. As for the quality of the cameras used, we will talk about slightly below-average qualities for a given price category.
You will get really great results in good lighting conditions outdoors. Well, I honestly think that even cheaper models take pictures well outside. It is important to find out what the results are in poor light. They are not excellent, but they can stand. The photos are not very sharp, they come soft to me with a little detail. However, they sometimes excel during the day, which surprised me.
But the conditions must be excellent and Nokia can handle high dynamic range, contrast and photos have realistic, vivid colors. The ultra-wide sensor is not so good anymore, but I didn’t expect much from it. It will be used for possible photographs of scenery, but even in those cases I would rather opt for a primary sensor.
The Nokia X20 has a primary sensor with 64 MP resolution
Since the resolution of the main camera of the Nokia X20 smartphone is relatively high (64 MP), it is possible to create quite decent zoomed images by simply cropping from a photo (digital zoom). There is already a visible loss of quality. I think the competition takes better photos, but this is not a disaster and for occasional photography it is a suitable phone.
The most pleasant surprise for me was the “selfie” camera, located in a circular cutout in the middle of the top of the display. Although the image may not look good while taking a photo in the camera application, it will do its best when you press the shutter button post-processing. Your “selfies” will always look very decent, sharp and with a high dynamic range.
Video can be recorded in 1080p at a maximum frame rate of 60 fps. Sample videos are shot at 30 fps. You can be interested in a mode with increased stabilization of the recorded image or a function that muffles the wind in the sound of the video clip.
