How an ‘administration hour’ a week can prevent serious quarrels
Arguing because one of the two forgot to put the container on the road, to make that one appointment or still hasn’t done that one job. Recognizable? The solution is quite simple: enter a weekly administration hour.
All those chores take up a lot of space in your head. Constantly reminding each other about chores that need to be done is not really fun either. And with a bit of bad luck, you also feel guilty if you do nothing for a while. Trouble! Time to do something about that. TikTokker Celine Hartford has found the solution: she and her partner plan a weekly fixed moment to do all the boring chores.

In the video ‘5 Stupid Things We Don’t Want to Argue About’, she explains that administrative hour is their time to get rid of all the stupid chores that would otherwise be stuck in their heads all week. Here’s what they do:
- Check whether packages still need to be packed or returned. Yes? Then do it right away!
- Make appointments for things like the dentist, hairdresser, or physio.
- Check what still needs to be bought or done. Can it be done right away? Then do it. Can’t do it right away? Then make a list.
- Plan fun things and outings for the following week and make reservations right away.
- Come back to messages/emails from friends and family that you didn’t get to before or to make plans.
You can complete a lot of stupid jobs in an hour and you’ll be up to date every week. Usually the chores don’t take much time in themselves, but you have to put in the effort. That is exactly what you are forcing yourself to with this adinstration hour. Other things you can do in this hour include paying bills, checking kids’ schedules, planning meals or shopping lists, and planning vacations and holidays.
