Honor 20, 20 Pro and V20 receive the Magic UI 4.0 extension

Brand Honor, which belonged to Huawei a few months ago, continues to update its smartphones. According to the portal GizmoChina an upgrade to the superstructure has been started Magic UI 4.0 for global versions of models Honor 20, 20 Pro a V20. Unfortunately, the system is still in the older version of Android 10.

Honor 20 Pro

The Honor brand has been complicated by an update ban for its former owner

The Honor V20 was introduced in December 2018. The pair of Honor 20 and 20 Pro was introduced by the manufacturer in May 2019. All three smartphones used the Android 9.0 Pie system with the Magic UI 2.x extension at the time of the launch, and later received updates to Android 10.

In May 2019, the US Department of Commerce banned the sale of US technology to the Chinese company Huawei. As a result, its new smartphones came to the market without Google applications, and the old ones were complicated by updates. And since the Honor brand was owned by Huawei until November last year, the ban also applied to Huawei.

Since the change of ownership, the Honor brand promises to renew its relationship with Google, which should begin certifying its devices again. So far, however, this has not happened, so the Honor 20, 20 Pro and V20 only get the Magic UI 4.0 extension, which is still built on the Android 10 system.

The software update is distributed in the form of OTA and its number is 11.0.0.138. The size of the update should be 1.84 GB. You can check its availability in the smartphone settings. Prior to installation, make sure that your smartphone battery is at least 70% charged.

Magic UI 4.0 is a renamed extension of EMUI 11

Magic UI 4.0 is essentially a renamed and slightly modified superstructure of EMUI 11, which was introduced by the former owner of the Honor brand in September last year. It brings several changes in the graphical interface and also in the functions of the original version of the superstructure:

  • Artistic themes
  • New options for working on multiple screens
  • Smoother animations
  • Super notebook
  • Subtler effects
  • Rhythmic ringtone
  • Protect your privacy in Notepad and when sharing photos
  • Display protection function against unwanted touches and other functions

How’s competition with updates?

The competition is also trying to update its models. Nokia has already updated its first Nokia 8.3 5G model to Android 11. After the new year, the Japanese company Sony has launched an update for its Xperia 10 II, Xperia 5 II or Xperia 1 and 5 smartphones. Motorola was the first to start distributing Android 11 for its Motorola moto g pro smartphone and more to follow.

Xiaomi has updated a number of its smartphones, including models of the standalone Redmi brand. An example is Redmi Note 9S. Huawei has again brought the EMUI 11 superstructure to the Huawei P40, P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro models. OnePlus has previously updated the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro models. They got OxygenOS 11 built on Android 11. This week they also made it to last summer’s bestseller OnePlus Nord.

Probably the most active manufacturer in terms of software support is currently the South Korean Samsung. He was the first to update last year’s Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 flagship models, including the Galaxy S20 FE. This was followed by the flagship series Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 from 2019.

Their modified versions of Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite were not forgotten either. The update of the expensive folding devices Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip was also not surprising. The surprise was definitely Android 11 for cheaper models Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31.
