Home office no longer required from July 1st

According to the current state of affairs, the expiry of the so-called federal emergency brake in two weeks also ends the home office obligation.

Chancellery chief Helge Braun (CDU) said this to the on Wednesday Wirtschaftswoche approved. The statutory home office obligation is part of the regulation known as the emergency brake in the Infection Protection Act and will expire at the end of June.

New edition in autumn – if necessary

According to the current status of the development of the corona pandemic in Germany, an extension of the emergency brake cannot be assumed. Braun referred to the decreasing number of positive PCR tests in Germany.

That could look completely different again next autumn. If necessary, one would then have to decide on a new version of the regulation. The decision would then have to be made in the light of the vaccination quota achieved by then and the predicted protective effect of the vaccines. At the moment there is no reason for this.

The SPD minister wanted to continue working from home

The so-called federal emergency brake only came into force in April. It provides that the federal government can enforce uniform protective measures in areas with high incidence values. The underlying regulation is limited to June 30th.

However, there had been talks within the federal government with the aim of deliberately extending the obligation to work from home. In particular, the Federal Ministry of Labor under the leadership of Hubertus Heil (SPD) is said to have planned to continue the obligation to work from home in a revision of the SARS-CoV-2 occupational health and safety ordinance. As early as the end of May, the BDI had called for the end of the home office obligation as part of a 10-point plan.
