An application that has been available for the iPhone and Android for a while is Be My Eyes. Since we have not written about the application before, this seemed like a good time to introduce you to Be My Eys. Via the free app, volunteers can help people who are blind or partially sighted. This not only works in the Netherlands, but worldwide. The power of technology and human connection are combined to help people with reduced vision.
What can you think about? For example, you can assist with tasks by matching colors (of clothing). You can also pass on the meter readings, confirm that the lights are on, help with preparing food or see if something is out of date. It can also be about other questions such as finding a certain button on the remote control or setting the thermostat. At the time of writing, the app has nearly 4.6 million volunteers and nearly 300,000 blind people.
The operation of the app is simple. When a visually impaired person asks for help, the app sends a notification to several volunteers. The person who responds first is put through, after which a video call is started.
