Check in and out with debit card or mobile
From the beginning of 2023 it will be possible to check in and out contactlessly at all NS stations in the Netherlands with your debit card, credit card or mobile phone. You can therefore easily pay for your train ticket with your debit card or mobile. This is particularly useful for travelers who occasionally use public transport.
Since Tuesday, public transport travelers throughout the Netherlands can check in with a debit card. The public transport company RET from Rotterdam has now also introduced OVpay, making them the last carrier that had not yet introduced this system.
More and more travelers check in with a debit card or mobile
Translink informs NU.nl that in May more than 6% of all check-ins used a debit card, credit card or payment app. This is significantly higher than the percentage of less than 1% in November 2022. The growth of this share is due to the increased support of OVpay by various public transport companies.
According to Translink, half of the OVpay users used a payment app on their smartphone to check in. The other half uses a debit or credit card.
