GTA Online says goodbye to the old consoles

GTA 5 was released in 2013 and has been entertaining fans all over the world ever since. It all started on the older consoles, but now the open-world game is saying goodbye to this generation.

GTA Online: Soon no longer available on old consoles

Rockstar Games announced that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, the online multiplayer component of GTA 5, no longer accessible from December 16, 2021 will be. From September 15, 2021, Shark Cash Cards can no longer be purchased for the old generation of consoles. It’s a surprise, but understandable, that Rockstar is pulling the plug after almost eight years.

The reason is Updates and support for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC as well as for the improved versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / Sto be released in autumn.

In addition, website statistics tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club and other functions for selected PS3 and Xbox 360 games will be switched off on September 16, 2021. This includes:

  • Website stats tracking, online multiplayer, and leaderboards for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Max Payne 3
  • Website stats tracking for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of LA Noire

GTA Online: what happens to the story mode?

In the official press release Rockstar also announces that the shutdown of GTA Online for the aforementioned consoles “does not affect access to story mode of Grand Theft Auto V or the progress in it ”. You just won’t be able to get online with the game.
