Google will allow older devices to automatically reset permissions for underused applications
Among other things, Google has introduced a security feature in Android 11 that automatically resets permissions granted to applications if they haven’t been used for several months. The company now plans to introduce this feature to all devices with Google services that use Android 6 or later. The Hacker News portal informs about the news.
The novelty will be available in the coming months
The launch is expected to begin in December this year and end during the first quarter of 2022. According to Google, the change will help billions of devices, some of which are celebrating their eighth birthday this year. While in Android 11 the feature is turned on automatically, users of devices with older Android will have to enable it in the settings.
The feature helps users better protect their privacy by depriving little-used applications of access to, for example, storage or a camera, from which applications can quietly collect sensitive user information. Only applications designed to manage business devices will receive an exception.
Google is also making other changes to improve our privacy
The new feature is part of other changes that Google is currently working on to offer users better privacy. In July, the company decided to end support for Android 2.3.7 from September and also made it difficult for applications to track users who chose not to receive personalized ads.
In the future, it also plans to introduce a tab in the Google Play store with information about what data the app will collect about you, and wants to deny most apps access to the list of other installed apps.
