Google stops the Android Auto app on your smartphone

Android Auto is very popular. If your car supports it, all you need to do is connect your phone and your car’s infotainment screen will have even more options. There is also an Android Auto app for your smartphone, and Google is going to stop that.

End for Android Auto app

Google has announced that it will discontinue its Android Auto smartphone app. With this application, it is not necessary for your car to have Android Auto, because everything is done on the screen of your phone. With extra-large hot keys and certain useful options, you have important functions at your fingertips. With the launch of Android 12 in the fall, Android Auto for smartphones will also disappear. Not to be confused with Android Auto in the car itself.

Users with the app will be switched to the special driving mode of the Google Assistant. This will be baked in from Android 12, Google tells 9to5Google. While many details are not yet shared, Google’s response is as follows;

Google Assistant driving mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For the people who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience isn’t going away. For those who use the on phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will be transitioned to Google Assistant driving mode. Starting with Android 12, Google Assistant driving mode will be the built-in mobile driving experience. We have no further details to share at this time.

Those with smartphones running Android 11 or lower can continue to use the Android Auto app for now.
