Google now shows you your screen time in new Digital Wellbeing widget

Google introduces a new widget to the world. The new Screen Time widget shows you how long you’ve used your smartphone that day. Now you no longer have to look up this information yourself in an app. You are immediately confronted with it when you switch on your device again.

There were already rumors about the new widget, but as of now it is finally here. You can finally put a screen time widget between your applications on your home screen. The new widget makes it more accessible to view your screen time. Now you don’t have to look up this info yourself to confront yourself with your phone addiction.

Screen time is part of Digital Wellbeing. That’s an application from Google that you want to waste less time on your phone. All data from your screen time is therefore synchronized with this. The widget shows the total number of hours and minutes you have already spent on your phone. Below it, it also shows the three apps you’ve used most up to that point. There are three sizes to choose from. You can see the widgets in the photo below.

Pressing the widget opens the Digital Wellbeing menu. Here you can set timers for your apps, turn on focus mode or even bedtime mode. Focus mode helps you concentrate on your work and is less likely to get distracted by other notifications or applications. Bedtime mode helps you relax just before you go to sleep.

Material You design

The screen time widget is made according to Google’s Material You design. The widget also supports dynamic colors. This means that the colors of the widget will adapt to the background of your smartphone. This only works on smartphones with Android 12.
