Google Maps for iOS gets dark theme, widgets and iMessage integration

Google has announced that it is providing the Apple Google Maps app with a major update. The new version brings several improvements and new features.

Google Maps for iOS with dark theme

While we have been able to use the dark theme in Google Maps on Android for a long time, those with an Apple iPhone can also use the maps service in a dark theme. Google announces that this option has now been added to the navigation app.

Information that you want to have quickly added to your home screen can be added as a search widget. It allows you to quickly navigate to your favorite or common destinations. You can also add your current location as a widget to iOS. Another new functionality has to do with iMessage. Thanks to Google Maps integration, you can now share your location live with someone, via a special button in iMessage. This is valid for as long as the set time period, or until the sharing is stopped manually.
