Google Maps for Android starts with a very handy split-screen display for Street View

Google Maps is an incredibly commonly used application here. It is not without reason that Google regularly releases updates in which the functionality is further expanded. Now we see the split-screen view for Street View.

Split screen in Google Maps

A new function can be found in the latest version of Google Maps for Android. A limited group of users can use the split-screen functionality in Google Maps, which can be very useful when using Google Street View.

The screen is divided in two by means of the split-screen functionality. Until now the map with for example the streets disappears when you open the Street View view, but that changes with this function. That way you see both the map view, with where you are currently viewing the images, and the Street View image itself.

As mentioned, the function is unfortunately not yet available to everyone. It appears to be a server-side update that makes it available on a small scale. Some see it in Google Maps version 10.59.1, but that is no guarantee of success, according to tests by DroidApp. We will therefore have to wait until Google rolls out the function widely.
