Google is rolling out offline translation to Google Lens
Google Lens is a very handy application that may already be baked into the camera app on your smartphone. Quickly recognizing an object or translating text becomes child’s play. Now you can use offline translation.
Translate offline with Google Lens
Google Lens allows you to perform many useful tasks. For example, you can record a plant with the camera, and Lens ensures that you know which plant it is within a few seconds. You can also scan texts and have them translated immediately. Handy if you are on vacation, for example, or if you want to quickly convert a Dutch text into another language.
Google is now rolling out an improvement for Google Lens. It will be possible to translate texts offline. Until now, an internet connection was always required. This means you do not have to deprive your data bundle, and you can download the relevant language packages prematurely via, for example, a WiFi connection. A language package is usually just under 50MB in size, so that not much space is lost.
If you want to translate offline with Google Lens, it is very easy to do. To do this, open the Google Lens app and select translate at the bottom of the screen. Then tap the selected languages at the top of the screen and you will see the overview of recent languages. Behind most languages is an arrow icon indicating that this language pack can be downloaded. You will then see the size of the package and the download can begin.
