Google introduces do-it-yourself repair for Pixel phones

Google will soon let you carry out repairs on your Pixel phone. It is certainly not the first telephone company to switch to DIY repairs, because Samsung and Apple, among others, have come up with these kinds of options before. In fact, Google works with the same company as Samsung to offer this service: iFixit.

Pixel repair kit

Samsung was just a month earlier, but in the end that doesn’t matter: it’s good that smartphone suppliers come up with options to fix your own phone. The advantage for you is that you have the costs under control yourself and that you do not lose your device for a few days or weeks. In addition, Google’s program does not only apply to the latest Pixel: you can already buy a set from Pixel 2 to breathe new life into your device.

You will soon be able to buy various repair kits for Pixel from Google: for screen repairs, to fix your battery and to solve problems with the camera. The great thing is that you actually buy parts from Google, so you don’t opt for a piece of string or unreliable repair, but for one that comes closest to the real thing. You can also expect instructions and possibly tools from iFixit.

Collaboration with iFixit

Google writes, “We want you to have a great experience with your Pixel phone, including easy access to high-quality and safe device repair if your phone is ever damaged. That’s why we’re partnering with iFixit to make it easier for independent repair professionals and consumers with the relevant technical experience to access the genuine Google parts they need to repair Pixel phones.” In short, you must have some form of courage and technical knowledge to try the repair.

Sounds good, but there is a catch. You can only buy the repair kits in countries where the Pixel is for sale. So we will have to get him from Germany. When the fix-your-own-phone program from Google will start or what it’s called, it is still unknown.

Would you dare to take care of your Pixel with such a kit from Google and iFixit? Leave your comment below this post.
