Google Docs on Android now opens where you want it
Google is introducing something called “First Open Experience” to Google Docs on Android. The idea is that a document immediately opens in edit mode, so that you can get started right away. Google thinks this is better for your creative flow.
Google Docs
If you never use Google Docs on mobile, but always on desktop, you probably have no idea what this is about. If you open Google Docs as an app on your phone, it will open the document, but you still have to tap a pencil on the right if you want to edit it. Actually, that doesn’t really make any sense: 9 times out of 10 you will want to edit a post. A nice realization from Google.
You’ll probably just have to tap the text a few more times for the virtual keyboard to appear. If you use an external keyboard, you can immediately start tapping. Where the app now hides many options in the menu, you see that the toolbar with which you arrange the layout is now more prominently displayed. By the way, if you don’t want to type but just read a document, there is always the preview mode to choose.

Slides and Spreadsheets also get the ‘First Open Experience’ treatment. They also get the option to edit immediately upon opening, but in a slightly different way. Google Sheets gets targets to tap, which immediately puts the toolbar for different options in front of you. In Slides you will notice that you immediately see the filmstrip of what you have created so far, but when you choose an object you immediately get a virtual keyboard and a toolbar that fits what you probably want to do.
The adjustments are now rolling out: we didn’t have it yet, but it can come to these Google apps on your Android device at any time.
