Google Chat and Google Workspace are now available to everyone

Company Google for many years it provided a package of working tools Google Workspace only paying corporate clients. According to the portal TheVerge is now available for free to all users and along with it Google Chat.

Google Workspace, originally called the G Suite, is designed to enable more advanced collaboration between users of Google services. It basically combines common applications (Gmail, Calendar, Disk, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Meet, Chat, etc.), but with more advanced features and interconnection.

Google Workspace will now be available for free in its basic form and in a new graphical form for all users of Google Services. And that includes service Google Chat, which was previously only available to paying users and should replace Google Hangouts. They also include the so-called Rooms (later renamed Spaces), which will serve as an alternative to the corporate communication application Slack.

At the same time, a paid version of Google Workspace will be retained, giving you access to premium features. These include recently introduced smart booking services, professional video conferencing and personalized email marketing. Overseas, users pay a monthly fee of $ 9.99 for it. It will not be available in Europe until the year.

Google has also improved some security features of Google Workspace. For example, client-side encryption or labels for Google Drive have been added. These allow administrators to classify files and better control other users’ access rules to them. Google Workspace has also improved protection against phishing and malware.

How do I enable Google Chat and Meet in the Gmail interface?

  1. Open Gmail on your computer.
  2. Click Settings in the top right "" and then See all settings.
  3. Click above Chat a Meet.
  4. To turn Chat on or off in Gmail, select next to Chat Google Chat or Turn off.
  5. Click on Save Changes.
