During the I / O event, Google regularly shows the technologies it is working on. From finished products to concepts that are still in full development. Project Starline helps to bring people close together. Google can place realistic 3D models in your room as if they were actually there.

You don’t even need 3D glasses to see the models and interact as if you were having a normal conversation close to that person. The technology is fading into the background, according to Google. A lot is needed to make that technology work. Think of an entire cabin made of 3D glass that provides a realistic feeling of volume and depth. Furthermore, Google used all of its knowledge in the field of computer vision, machine learning, room-filling sound and real-time compression.

Making the technology accessible

Although you do not have to expect that a similar setup can be installed in your living room tomorrow. Currently, Project Starline is present in a number of Google office spaces and is already being used to allow employees to communicate with each other. Google has also been running tests in collaboration with hospitals and the media, and the intention is to see much more testing with Project Starline. The main challenge now is to make the technology affordable.
