Google Assistant shortcuts are useful tools to quickly control popular apps like WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram with a voice command. The shortcuts work with English voice commands and we explain how to set them.

The shortcuts for the Google Assistant were gone for a while, but luckily they are back. Unfortunately, they only work for now if you have your Android set to the English language. With the Google Assistant shortcuts you can perform one action for an app in combination with the voice command ‘Hey Google’. For example, you can add ‘Hey Google, Create new video in TikTok’ as a shortcut. If you want to perform multiple actions, you can get started with the Routines.

You can find shortcuts for the Google Assistant on your Android by following the steps below.

  • Open the Google app
  • Tap ‘More’ at the bottom right
  • Tap on ‘Settings’
  • Tap on ‘Google Assistant’
  • Swipe down to open the ‘Shortcuts’

In the ‘Explore’ tab you will find a personalized overview of shortcuts. From here you can add them to control apps like Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, Google Maps and Gmail with your voice. For Instagram you can, for example, choose new post, view my profile and view feed. For Maps you can choose from my places, share location and view timeline.

On the second tab you will then see the shortcuts you have added. Here you can also adjust the shortcuts. For example, you can shorten a voice command from ‘Hey Google, Create new video in TikTok to’ Hey Google, New TikTok video ‘. You can also delete shortcuts in this tab. With these shortcuts you can easily start an action in an app with your self-composed voice command.
